Trade in the junky Fifth Element Blu-ray for the remastered one!

Did you get suckered into thinking that the coolest Blu-ray movie to get upon the PS3's inception was the incredibly colorful and flashy film The Fifth Element, only to realize upon viewing that it actually didn't have an impressive transfer at all? This blogger did. But at PS3 Fanboy, we strive to learn from our mistakes and pass the information gained onto you all. So, you may be happy to know that the folks at Blu-ray headquarters (if such a thing exists) are ready and willing to trade in those old Fifth Element Blu-rays and send you a fresh copy of a newly remastered and much improved version.

The new version is getting released on July 17th, complete with AVC encoding, two lossless/uncompressed audio tracks (the original PCM track as well as a 20-bit Dolby TrueHD track), and an overall cleaner, crisper video presentation. Sony is taking it upon themselves to get your name and address so they can contact you closer to the release date in order to dole out information how you'll go about exchanging your old movie for the new one. We'll give you the contact info below, but have your name, address, and phone number ready to be imparted to Sony whichever path you choose.
Thanks, Sony!

2. OK, A: That's very cool, and B: I didn't buy this when it was on sale—because I already had the remastered version on preorder.

3. Wait, your Fifth Element worked on your PS3? I had to return it because my PS3 would not play it. I would get a blue screen with an error code. Searching the web I found that the Fifth Element as well as a few others would not work on the PS3 so I returned it and haven't bought a Bluray since

4. Wow. Sony really didn't have to do this but they did and thats why they usually get my money. First they swapped out my Vaio battery because they didn't want me getting hurt and then they are gonna give me a new copy of 5th element so i can impress my friends.

Sony wuvs me.

5. "Wait, your Fifth Element worked on your PS3? I had to return it because my PS3 would not play it."

Really? Are you sure it wasn't fixed by a firmware update, because I've heard from plenty of people who got it to work. That's how I knew not to buy the original release...

6. Cool! I didn't realize The Fifth Element was on Blu-ray, I will definitely pick this up now. :D

Cheers

7. This free replacement program is fantastic. I'm sending in my blu-ray for replacement too.

9. Great news, although I didn't really see a huge problem with it. The BD that I think looks totally AWFUL is Total Recall. It looks like stretched out standard definition AND it's not in the original aspect ratio! TOTAL BS!

10. "Superman was in VC1 and is one of the best looking Blu rays."

I have no idea what you watched Superman on, but it reviewed out as mediocre at best. It was a major disappointment. So far the best Blu-Rays have been AVC, with a few exceptions (Corpse Bride, for example).

Warner has been abusing the compression level with VC-1, and as such have produced a lot of sub-par BDs (and HD-DVDs).

If you want to see good, go to Pirates of the Caribean or Crank... both MPEG4. Heck, even the MPEG2 Underworld: Evolution looks great compared to Superman!

11. @TheSh0wstopper: MPEG2, yes, but there’s nothing wrong with MPEG4.

12. I ordered The Fifth Element from Amazon and it did not play on my PS3 -- didn't even show up as being in the drive. So I got Amazon to send me a replacement and the replacement worked fine. So it may be that there is a bad batch of discs out there.

13. Something like this is definitely showing customer care. It is completely unnecessary to do this, there are plenty of SHIT movies(as in PQ/SQ) out there even b4 blu-ray movies came around. Fifth Element certainly isn't the worst BD, Sleepy Hollow has it beat, but I am very glad that they are replacing my copy though. Kudos Sony!
