Yosuke Hayashi, producer and director of Ninja Gaiden Sigma at Team Ninja, has promised gamers and critics alike that they've done everything they could with Ninja Gaiden on the PS3. It is the best it can be, remake or not, and will silence those critical of the PlayStation 3's potential. From a speech given at a recent NGS event, Hayashi said "I have heard much criticism of the PS3, but I am confident that Ninja Gaiden Sigma will demonstrate how powerful the PS3 really is." We hope he's right because that demo was darn amazing.What's most impressive, though, is the final framerate and resolution count. With some advanced effects like self-shading, you'd expect the normal 720p at 60fps or 1080p at 30fps, right? No. Team Ninja is actually delivering those advanced graphical techniques with a persistant 60fps at an astounding 1080p! Hayashi claims that no game has yet to do that, neither on the 360 or the PS3. We can't wait to see it in action.

The ONLY criticism I have of this game, graphically, is that from what I've seen nobody has a reflection in all those shiny, shiny floors. Everything else looks great though, and I'm looking forward to my preorder finally being filled.

Team Ninja is achieving 1080p resolution at 60Hz because the game engine actually is rendering everything at 720p, and using the upscaler internally to bring the resolution up. That's how the RSX can handle these higher rez graphics so well.
Pretty much how developers do on the 360 as well.
Although this doesn't really feel next-gen, it will nonetheless be a great game, I think I'll buy it. And hopefully it will pave the way to Ninja Gaiden 2 being multi-platform.

Nothing like a remake to silence critics... and yes, I am jealous. I'm always missing out on the Ninja Gaiden it seems... no Xbox last generation no PS3 this time... bogus.

@3:
Well, you can play NG:B on the 360, it's backwards compatible, and pretty damn impressive as it is.
You just won't get to play as Rachel.

i agree with you #1. all that graphical pinache and the character models still float across shiny cathedral floors.
i love this game, my xbox 1 is my ninja gaiden arcade machine, i play it at least once a week since it launched back in 04, but i don't think it warrants a ps3 purchase.

^ why the heck would you even consider $600 to play a remake of a game you've already played to death?

Because when you've also got games like Heavenly Sword, Drake's... you know, all those other ps3 titles we're geting tired of having to type out, the games like Sigma are icing. I never played it, so you better believe I'm looking forward to it. I think that describes a lot of ps3 owners. Probably why this isn't coming out on the 360. Besides, he didn't say he was buying it, or a ps3 at this point, did he?
It's a big title coming out at a time when there isn't much available. It will do well; I'd be interested to see how it sells compared to it's xbox siblings actually.

The only thing I didnt like about the Sigma demo is when you go through a door or climb something, I wanted it to all be fluid, but it seemed like its not natural.

Definitely be getting this one when it hits the shops. 1080p/60fps? If only everyone could be Team Ninja.

Didn't Ridge Racer 7, a launch title, achieve this very goal? Yeah, I think it did. And it looks gorgeous on my 60" Sony 1080P HDTV!
I hooked an XBOX 360 up to my TV and the room got 20 degrees warmer in 30 seconds even before the XBOX said that it couldn't recognize the XBOX game disc, then crapped out with that notorious red ring.

GT HD, Ridge Racer 7, and Tekken 5: DR are 3 PS3 games I have that run at 1080p, 60fps, and have self-shadowing. I think Virtua Tennis is also 1080p60, and it's got self-shadowing as well. Team Ninja isn't really breaking new ground here.
