Best Buy offers $20 off select PS3 titles

Just like before, during the post-holiday rush, next-gen gaming is once again getting a little bit cheaper for select titles. Tony Hawk's Project 8 and Virtua Fighter 5 are now available at Best Buy for $39.99, $20.00 off the standard price of $59.99. The reviews were rather decent for both, but potential buyers should note the absence of online play in Virtua Fighter 5 and the apparent framerate slowdown in Tony Hawk's Project 8. You can head to your local Best Buy or shop online for either of these deals. Act quickly, lest the man that giveth, also taketh away!

1. Tony Hawk lacks online play also, while the other console got it.

Honestly, THPS sucks, just pass on it. I can't vouch for VF5, I never liked the series, but others enjoy it.

2. I find it hilarious that you people keep beating the fact that VF5 is not online. The really hilarious fact is that if the casual fighting game/graphics hounds crowd got the online feature that's so important to them, they would just get pwned constantly. So much in fact most of them wouldn't even bother learning, much like the Halo n00bs and the Counter-strike n00bs (and soon to be Gears n00bs).

It's not like I wouldn't love to pummel a seasoned Halo player into the ground from a thousand miles away. But it really doesn't matter either way cause the lag would make it a totally diffrent game. Let's leave online to fighting games like DOA and Mortal Kombat, i.e. the games n00bs play. =)

3. Why are people stressing so much that VF5 is not online? They still think the 360 version will be playable online? You do get extras like achievements, but online versus... forget about it!

4. Virtua Fighter is good if you can find a worthy opponent. So yes, online you would likely get killed, but at home, I can dance around my poor friends until I feel it's time for a great few combos. Online is most likely possible and any good ranking system will simply make sure noobs play with noobs and black belt stick with black belts.
I bought my PS3 partially for VF5. Luckily, when it came out, I rented it first. Now it's coming down in price, so I may eventually get it anyway because I played the first three to death. I may wait for the discount bin though. Luckily, I love Resistance and Motorstorm (can 1.2 patch come out for it please!)

5. Its not the fact that online wouldn't be great but this game can't have online. If anything the online would have been more efficient on the PS3 since it forces company's to use dedicated servers. The timing on this game has to be perfect. No lag or it completely ruins the game. 360 won't get online either not happening.

6. I'm annoyed by how reviewers always mention that tony hawk for the ps3 has so much slowdown but they hardly ever mention that the 360 version had it too. I'm not trying to be a troll and I own it for the 360.

7. Brandon,

If there's one thing we can agree on - it's that the game was shit on both platforms. Tony Hawk? More like Tony Pigeon.

8. Actually VF5 is suppose to have online play on the 360.

And TH Project 8, was rushed for new consoles. what did you expect, I never even bothered renting it. Played the demo, that was enough for me.

But the nice price on VF5 may persuade me to buy it now. I just dont like how you have to be a kid with no life and play 24/7 just to learn a combo or two. Seriously, who has that much time. Get a job.

9. The VF series can't be online. There may be online features for the 360 version, but actual online fighting would be stupid. The developers aren't that dumb.

Unlike Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Street Fighter, and even Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter is a game dependent on frames. Meaning, if you are merely five frames off (which is less than a 10th of a second) on a button press the move won't work correctly. VF5 is a game built looking for openings. Think of it like a boxing match. The player that just punches randomly will get nowhere, while the player who waits for a good
