With the
Home beta
starting yesterday, tiny tidbits of information have begun to appear about Sony's innovative online community platform. One of the more intriguing tidbits come from the website
SonyProtectionGroup.com. They've published a rumor suggesting that Sony is integrating a P2P file sharing protocol that will help make it faster and easier for users to share media with each other.
It's also been suggested that this may be an attempt by Sony to reduce their bandwidth usage, which is probably a good idea. Bandwidth can be expensive, and
unlike the other guys, Sony's not charging us for it.

Sony will do what Youtube's doing... when they get a DMCA takedown notice, they will take it down. And that will be the end of that.
Kazaa is solely for P2P sharing, to Sony, it's only a feature. I can see them getting around it.
although I forseen a lot of porno exchanged there. LOL

Phil Harrison stated, about three-fourths of the way, in an interview with GameTrailers.com that there are three ways they will offset the cost of [Home]:
1. Premium items (micro transactions)
2. Advertisement
3. P2P or kind of sponsorship type opportunities for game and non-game brands
SD MOV - http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=17702&type=mov&pl=game
SD WMV - http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=17702&type=wmv&pl=game

that's a cost for HOme?? I hope they aren't censoring it too much, it will ruin it.
as for Micro-transaction, screw it, if they want me to buy some clothing, I'd much rather running around HOME naked. (like in second life)

I forgot to mention. Probably the most common situation P2P will be seen is when you invite people to your apartment and show them your videos or play music for them. That kind of stuff doesn't really need to go through the server.

well, if it's just inviting people over for a show at HOME.. then it should be no different than Youtube, right?
simple DMCA notice.. although i don't see how you can even do that for one person.
I bet there are a looot of R-rated stuff in no time. lol, HOME's future is not bright when it comes to being kid-friendly.

First a little aside...KILLU, are you txt messaging this site using a broken keyboard? Damn, use some parsing and non caps sometimes and we all know that GTAIV is coming.
Back on topic.
P2P...great idea...this is the future of mass media distribution. Take a look at the structure of Joost and you see where Sony could take this.

As for porn in Home. I don't quite see it as a YouTube as I don't think individual spaces are free roaming. From what I understand your 'house' is private...people can only come in if they have been invited in or asked to come in. So if you enter Home EVERYthing you see in common areas is completely controlled by Sony (ie Kid/Family friendly)...only once you enter someones area (again by being on an approved list controlled by that house owner) could you see thier movies etc.

I thought Phil said that (regarding to porn/indecent material) is that you can only show it to people in your private space - and the person will presumably be your friend or someone who trusts you (or dumb enough to go to a random guy's private room). I think some industries (if applicable) could open "private viewing houses" where they could show tv shows, movies, clips etc. for purchase to make money.

P2P is the best idee to let multiple people watch the same movie at the same time. I'm sure Home become a great online world

I would but my Joost has been bugging out and won't load in order for me to send you an invite (its beta and my computer isn't playing nice with it (though it was fine for a couple of weeks))
