Final Fantasy hates PlayStation -- the minds behind each, at least

If you want to get nitpicky (or nit-picky, if you're especially nitpicky), Hironobu Sakaguchi (the father of Final Fantasy and by default, the success of Square Enix) let his tongue fly recently against the father of PlayStation -- Ken Kutaragi. Heck, the lord of newly-formed Mistwalker bashed pretty much every system out there except for Nintendo. He didn't compliment it, really, but he danced around anything negative.

EGM asked Sakaguchi why Mistwalker currently had no plans for the PlayStation 3. He responded quickly: "The machine's architecture is tricky, and I don't like Ken Kutaragi." Fair enough, good sir. Even though a lot of the devs for PS3 claim that if you just sit down and try, the potential is limitless and that you're lazy if you don't try.

About the XBox 360, Sakaguchi said, "Microsoft has to change its marketing strategy in Japan. There are a lot of excellent games on the 360, far better games than what's on the Wii or PS3. But not a lot of people in Japan have a clear idea what games like Gears of War are all about. Just look at the Windows Vista commercial -- it's terrible." Fair enough, again.

How about Nintendo? He doesn't have anything planned for the Wii, does he? "The system is intriguing, but right now, I have no plans on making a game for the Wii." It seems like he doesn't want to take any risks and he doesn't like anyone. Well, Mr. Sakaguchi, would you rather make your own console and see what happens when there are four systems in the market?

1. let's see, he hates PS3 and he doesn't want to work on Wii.. so that leaves him.. hmmmm, xbox?

I hope his company get some kind of 'backing' from Microsoft for all this sudden loyalty. ;)

I mean, it's almost like Mistwalker is somehow funded by Microsoft.

ooh wait. ;)

Let's be fair, how is this fair? It's like asking the CEO of Insomnia what he thinks about Xbox. Or Steven Job what he thinks about Microsoft

2. He gets money from Microsoft....IF you make jrpg and dont feel their meant for PS3 ur an idiot.

3. >IF you make jrpg and dont feel their meant for PS3 ur an idiot.

I would say.. if you make JRPG and you don't make it for PS3 AND Nintendo, you're being a hypocrite.

not to mention he has NO right to bash on others for making a product that didn't sell well, when he almost bankrupted Enix with his movie.

4. Does it matter? Everyone's precious FFXIII is still going PS3. And it will sell better than Blue Dragon. Who knows about Lost Odyssey...but I really want to play that one.

"IF you make jrpg and dont feel their meant for PS3 ur an idiot."

A lot of JRPG's could run on the Wii just fine....what are you getting at?

We all know he's going to give in sooner or later. Just because Mistwalker has some exclusives for MS that doesn't mean that they'll never put something out for the PS3. He just doesn't want to right now...which is understandable. Give it a year or two.

5. well i hate final fantasy. so take that mr. sakaguchi san.

Posted at 7:49PM on May 1st 2007 by Otsego_Undead

6. You know what? Sakaguchi-san

2.43 million FFXII sold in Japan, vs 300K Blue Dragon sold in Japan

That's what you call "IN YOUR FACE", we loved your old FF series, but you just HAD to leave on such a sour note (if losing 120 million of company's money wasn't a sour note to begin with)

7. Well his timing couldn't be any better, because Ken Kutaragi has left, so hop on over. Really though, personal bias and hatred for one particular person gets in the way of a business decision, what a complete twat. Mistwalker could earn way more money but no because this prick doesn't like Krazy Ken.

No offense but i hope he chokes on his gay little mustache.

8. @Naaiif

you know he's not hopping back, his company is PAID by Microsoft. The way I see it, he only made his comment because he doesn't want to say "making games for PS3? Did you not know we are Microsoft?"

now I'm going to enjoy the next interview, when people ask him if he's going to reconsider and what kind of 'excuse' he's going to make.

how about "I won't make it for PS3 because I'm a Vegan and dead goat turned me off" ;)

9. I didn't know 2nd-graders could grow mustaches. Must be all those antibiotics we've been taking for centuries....

Posted at 8:35PM on May 1st 2007 by OrganicShadow

10. He is the biggest fanboy ever! Just because he doesn't like Krazy Ken? How can you not love Krazy Ken? A lot of people say the PS3 is hard to develop for but its not according to other developers, and how does he know anyway if he hasn't made a game or even has any plans to make a game on the PS3. Do they just give him a dev kit cause of his sexy mustache?

11. even if FFXIII goes multiplatform, it will still sell quadruple the amount Blue Dragon did in it's home country. anything he says is a nonfactor at this point.

12. "not to mention he has NO right to bash on others for making a product that didn't sell well, when he almost bankrupted Enix with his movie."
Come again?

FF:TSW was released in the US and UK July 2001, and in Japan that September. If I recall correctly, Square Company Ltd. didn't merge with the Enix corporation until April of 2003.

I'm sure Sakaguchi, a guy who has sold almost 100 million units of software, and co-founded the company Square, really cares about you think.

As for his "bias" that you allude to for working at Microsoft, maybe you should keep two things in mind. He openly trashed Microsoft a month or two ago, and he's working on a DS game.

14. Edit: *what (you tink)

Posted at 7:16AM on May 2nd 2007 by Next-Gen-Gamer

15. I dont take what he says seriously anymore... He said the reason he broke out of SE was because he wanted independence and more control... now he's MS's lapdog... yeah thats a lot of control. Sure he is the head of the company now so there will be less people ordering him around but the fact is still MS's funding his games and he has to listen to them.

16. @next-gen-gamer

Oh really? Gosh, I was hoping he comes to www.PS3fanboy.com to read my posts about it. are you telling me he doesn't come visit? GOSH, time wasted. :(

He can 'bash' anything he wants, but we ALL know who pays his bill right now.

Posted at 12:06PM on May 2nd 2007 by kingofwale

17. how the hell can he said all that. have you allready try making games for the ps3 or wii?
