We here at PS3 Fanboy remain cautiously optimistic about the ESRB website's listing of Eternal Sonata as both a 360 and PS3 title -- timed exclusive or simultaneous release, we don't care. Since the Sony consoles are stereotypically dubbed the role-playing, platformer, action, sports, strategy, experimental genre, whatever system (hmm, something seems off), this game would make a great addition to what's historically helped Sony succeed. Check out the trailer -- it's not entirely new, but a few gameplay snippets are more recent. Anyone speak Japanese and care to translate? In any case, the game looks great. Super smooth. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

This game is so Wii-tastic.
how much does Namco plan to sell in Japan realistically with 400K install base of xbox? ;)
I see it coming on PS3 in 3 months (if not right away) and in Wii, PS2 in 1 year
and frankly if it can be ported to WII, why can't it be on PSP? I'm hopeful.

How much can any ps3 game developer hope to sell with under 3 million install base? 1 million copies of a game is almost unfathomable for an install base that small. 3 million was achieved quite quickly with gears of war on the huge install base of Xbox. Many developers have been quite satisfied by selling over a million copies of a game.
* Gears of War (3 million)
* The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (3 million, includes PC release)
* Call of Duty 2 (1.4 million)
* Madden NFL 07 (1.1 million in US only)
* Dead Rising (1.1 million)
* Perfect Dark Zero (1 million)
* Saint's Row (1 million)[52]
* Dead or Alive 4 (1 million)[53]
* Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (1 million)
* Lost Planet: Extreme Condition (1 million)
If any developer for ps3 plans to sell a million copies, they are gonna have to reach 30% of the total userbase, instead of 10%. Good luck!

yeah, Fall of Man did it. I'm sure they can do it.
since you're soooo great with Data and has unlimited amount of time Scott, Why not show us 1 japanese RPG game that sold 1 million copies on a xbox brand machine? ;)

I think that's the whole point of Microsoft paying developers to make Japanese RPG games for their system. Xbox is always stereotyped as shooting console, so they want to add more to the mix. Blue dragon will probably do somewhat decently over here, and then Japanese developers can see how successful making games for US can be, and will continue making RPG's for Japan and US. Japan gets more RPG's, sells more systems, US gets more RPGs, sells more systems. It's a win-win situation.
Microsoft is fighting an uphill battle in Japan, and everyone knows it. It's no secret that they're not doing that well over there, but it's not from lack of trying. They are going against over 10 years of Sony dominance, and the country's loyalty to Sony brand (it being a Japanese company)
But hey we could argue all day about differences between our consoles. I'll take a shot at you now! Why not show us 1 first person shooter that sold over 3 million copies on ps2.

first of all, 3 million is very different than 1 million.
Medal Of Honour Rising Sun: 4.65 million
SOCOM: 3.44 million
there you go.
oh, as for showing Japanese game developer that it can be profitable developing games for xbox... well, how many copies did Ninja Gaiden sold actually? :)

recently was talking to a japanese friend over Final Fantasy 11 and it's the same over there, The only reason people arnt snatching PS3's off the shelves is that the price is too high.
If more games like this were to be released for the PS3, it would give them more incentive to drop the cash to pick it up. And when you have a choice between the PS3 and the Xbox..well I think we all know how that would turn out..
Both my friend and I believe its only a matter of time, and game library.

Eternal Sonata doesnt have the look of an "AA" game and "sure seller" in US or Japan. It will totally flop for 360 in japan and from news it doesnt seem MS is funding NamcoBandai on this (hence the now non-exclusive). I dont think the sales in US will recuperate the losses if it goes 360 exclusive and without MS backing they pretty much have to release on PS3 to help recuperate. Of course the port wont be that good since its 360 to PS3 but the fact that this wont be an exclusive will bring more PS3 owners and reduce 360 sales..

While we're waiting for Scotts answer, why don't you tell us what Ken's Ass tasted like? That is if you can pry yourself away from the buffet long enough.

i think the Gears party at a mousoleum is worse than some dead goat for God of war party. They are basically disrespecting the dead and i didnt read much negative news on that... guess whatever sony does have a negative spin on it..

Gears of War: 3 million
console base at time of launch = 6 mn (HIT RATE: 1/2)
Dead Rising (1.1 million)
console base at time of launch = 4.5 mn (HIT RATE: 1/4)
GRAW(1 million)
console base at time of launch = 3 million (HIT RATE: 1/3)
So whats your point Scott?

Just being obtuse...I didn't see anything wrong with the GodOfWar (the only GOW) party either. All of a sudden video game nerds are all card carrying PETA members?

Everyone seems to keep forgetting that units won't sell unless publishers put games on them. It's a sticky situation because the publishers are putting the heat on CONSUMERS by saying "why don't YOU take the risk with your money, and then we might give you the games", and the consumers is saying back "no no no.....YOU put the games on there and we will buy the system.
Pretty lame, but it's basically how it's working out right now. Funny how childish a lot of these big corporate game companies seem sometimes.

rfom, maybe you don't know how numbers work. You are looking at final sales numbers of games, while comparing 360 consoles owned when the game launched? What does that prove?
Let's prove how much of an idiot you are by using this example:
We'll use wikipedia's #'s
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (14 million)
***THIS IS TOTAL GAMES SOLD, AFTER A FEW YEARS***
I'll make up some completely random number to go along with your format.
console base at time of launch = 10 mn ps2s owned (random #)(HIT RATE: 140%!!!!!)
***THE 10 MILLION WAS THE AMOUNT OF PS2'S OWNED WHEN THE GAME CAME OUT, ITS A COMPLETELY RANDOM NUMBER***
Once again, why are you looking at TOTAL GAME SALES, but only comparing it to BEGINNING CONSOLES OWNED

LETS REDO RFOM'S NUMBERS, SINCE HE IS A COMPLETE MORON
Gears of War: 3 million
TOTAL CONSOLES SOLD IDIOT = 10 million (HIT RATE: 1/3)
Dead Rising (1.1 million)
TOTAL CONSOLES SOLD IDIOT = 10 million (HIT RATE: 1/10)
GRAW(1 million)
TOTAL CONSOLES SOLD IDIOT = 10 million (HIT RATE: 1/10)
Hmm which is more appealing to developers? Only have to appeal to 1/10 of the base to sell a million copies of a game, or appeal to 1/3 of the customers in order to sell a million copies? Tough choice!

OH I GOT ANOTHER ONE RFOM WILL LOVE, SINCE IT'S HIS NAME
Resistance: Fall of man(1 million someone said?)
console base at time of launch = 0 (HIT RATE 10000000/0)
RIGHT RFOM? THATS HOW YOUR NUMBERS WORK, RIGHT?

Isn't there a xbox 360 fanboy site y'all can go to?
Japanese oriented games to my knowledge have always performed poorly on xbox since most of the xbox base is American. Look at ninja giaden, JSRF, and otogi, all good games with poor sales. What's wrong with the xbox being a shooter console? That's what it is, isn't it? It would make good business since to make eternal sonata multi-platform in my opinion.
