Over at the
PS3 Forums, a few people have been making over their PlayStation 3's with funky stickers. While we'd never risk placing some kind of sticky covering over our expensive PS3's, it's still neat to see some of the designs out there. The one that started the thread, pictured here, used some kind of blue thing that ended up looking like the oceans of Hawaii on a clear spring day (best vacation ever, by the way).
Now, there are all sorts of special editions of the DS, the PSP, etc. Would anyone throw down some extra cash for a special edition PS3? We wouldn't. However! If there were special edition faceplates we could replace, like a
Heavenly Sword faceplate or something, we wouldn't hesitate to drop $25 bucks or so just to feel extra unique. Plus, they're easier to remove than a sticker. Your thoughts? Sony, you listening?

They have decals for the PS3.. well, for every system.. and they don't leave residue (so they claim) when you peel em off..

I like the 'faceplate' idea.

The faceplate idea really wouldn't work well, since the only part you could actually swap would be the top, which is usually pretty obscured unless you're one of those people who stands their PS3 up vertically so they can scratch the discs...

I think you're thinking of the 360, or does the ps3 have the same problem?
I was under the impression it was related to the 360 using a tray loading mechanism, rather than a slot like the ps3 and wii. Doesn't matter either way to me since I keep my systems flat so that they don't have as much chance of taking a tumble, but I hadn't heard reports of the ps3 having that problem.

I think it's pretty inadvisable regardless of loading mechanism. I just don't see the point, even if it IS risk-free. If you actually NEED to have it vertical because you don't have room, then wherever you're cramming it, it probably isn't getting enough ventilation.

@ Gustavo -- my advice may not be the best. Go to a botanical garden if you can. I remember going to one and it was... interesting. Other than that, hop some small planes to whatever island is most secluded from the industrialization and sit on the beach (just like those corona commercials). It's pretty much the least stressful thing I've ever done.
Oh! The Road to Hana should be explored only because it's so freakin' dangerous. I would never, ever drive on that road as a part of my life.
There's not much to advise... drink, sit on the beach (there are some great parasailing and scuba diving programs at every hotel), and relax. It really is a great escape.

I got Burberry plaid skins for my wiimote, psp, ps3, and 2 controllers from Decalgirl.com. I love them. They do come off with absolutly no residue just like they say. I've tried.

Hey thats my skin, and the main reason i put the decal on is to protect it since i was sick of discovering new scratches and scratching it even more by cleaning it. Anyways i couldnt be happier with my new pimped ps3!

Nick,
Actually, well-done decals are easy to take take off. If they are gloss finished, then they look really good.
I've done a couple of Xboxes and PS2s in the past, and they still look really good. Once a good design comes out for the 360, PS3, and Wii, I'l probably cover them right up. Maybe an ALIENS, Final Fantasy, and Metroid skin respectively.

Nick,
This has nothing to do with your post, but you mentioned you had an awesome time in Hawaii. I'm going to Maui on May 6th. Is there anything you would recommend to do?
