Colin McRae DIRT video proves... dirt is cool.

Even though this is clearly an FMV sequence, this Colin McRae fellow (apparently a big deal outside of the US) really wants his game to "wow" us. Take a look at the video and be moderately impressed. Interestingly, my several-year-old laptop can't handle watching the HD version, but it's the recommended way to watch anything "next-gen". The game is due out for the PS3, 360, and PC -- so the "wow" factor can be shared among all of us, agreed?

1. I actually can't wait for this!
And I live in UK (well actually N.Ireland)

2. I believe that some of that video actually used the in-game engine, if you look at the screenshots you can see that they are pretty similar.

If the graphics actually did look like that well, I would possible have an orgasm.

3. Actually, even if that is a pre-rendered FMV, it still looks EXTREMELY realistic!

4. "The game is due out for the PS3, 360, and PC -- so the "wow" factor can be shared among all of us, agreed?"

...not agreed. Games that are out on all three platforms tend to have people throwing together comparision screenshots so they can furthermore proclaim how PS3 graphics don't have anything over the 360.

I say, stop spreading the love and make games that are developed for the top end instead of forcing the styem to play at the level of the 360. Until Sony can start securing more exclusives, there is very little reason to belive that the PS3 can really out-shine (or out-dirt-mud-dust-particle) the competition.

5. Dude who cares its better that we all get cool games to play no matter what we own...not everyone is fortunate to have a PS3 have fun on whatever you like best.

6. This game looks intense already cant wait for it to come out.

7. Now that the whole force feedback "fiasco" is over. I hope this game will include force feedback on the PS3 version. If not, it would be so lame, even in this video you can see the drivers fighting with their steering wheels as to taunt us, hehe.

I plan to get a PS3 in a week or 2, is it true that the ps2 wheels work on the PS3 ? I have the Logitech Driving Force Pro and it would be awesome if it worked.

8. I loved playing Colin Macrae rally on my old PS2 (can't remember whuich version). Rally car racing is fantastic, US gamers should give it a crack...can't wait to play it on my 360. Or my PS3 when I eventually get one.

9. @4... that was so lame. I'm a ps3fanboy and I will admit that ps3 has nothing like Gears of War yet... this is going to be just like xbox and ps2... the 360 will make up for its slight weaknesses with clever programming, and at this point, there will be little difference. The only difference we'll see will be in a year when people code specifically for the ps3, and those will be ps3-only titles-- and while the xbox360, with clever programming, could compete, those games may not be written for it. For things like this, both units can compete equally. The ps3 doesn't need to 'dumb down' to meet the 360... the 360 is already there, with easier programming... You're not going to see these differences until 2008... until then, it's going to be very similar, and the only question will be which system you own, which format you choose to play in.

I still say that Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft should merge, and that all starving children should be fed.

But I digest.

10. Okay, I actually just now watched the video. There's a part where the car skids where it looks pretty fake but other than that, not bad, especially the rolling. It's good to see a game finally start to get physics right. We've all seen those horrible rolls on youtube, scary stuff. Now if we can just get the auto manufacturers to let their cars get mashed...

For me, driving games are the one place where I like force feedback, to feel where my wheels are. I don't care if I'm fighting someone in some violent epic and my controller vibrates when they hit me.

But feeling bumps in the road, feeling when you're fading into the grass or dirt, this is helping you play the game better.

11. I prefer MotorStorm.

12. @4 Multi format games will always suffer slightly, But i think your idea of cutting the 360 to improve the ps3 version is a little narrow minded, there is more to it than gfx, I think you need the 360 version to force sony to hurry up and give you a decent online service so you start geting more multiplayer games. I can live with ported titles but to get games with no online multiplayer that would be a hard pill to swallow.

When the time is right we will see both consoles true cards, now I think we should be happy to watch them flourish, there is nothing better than healthy competition.

13. Thats the most realistic "DiRT" Ive ever seen. Except for the real thing, of course.

14. Sony really should have sorted their act out.
360 will hold the crown for a long time due to a well established reputation, a strong online experience and a genuinely better product (and Ethos) that that of Sony.

PS3 is doing badly here in the UK and with no surprises. It's huge, ugly and very over priced (even for the un-needed/unused blu-ray).

Sony landed well with PS & PS2, I think PS3 will prove to be a big thorn in their side.

I won't even consider a PS3 this side of 2008 as it's too much money - my Wii and my 360 are all the entertainment I need and want.
Incidentally, Excite Truck is a much better game than Motorstorm - a poor effort for PS3.
