PS3 exclusives round-up [Update 2]

ps3 exclusivesEveryone loves exclusives. Except for people who don't. Count me among that group that appreciates a good exclusive... they're often our best hope that a game will utilize the full power of the given platform. Exclusives can mean that developers don't have to worry about design compromises that could impact the game's ability to take advantage of system specific naunces and features.

That said, let's take a look at what we know (or at least at what think we know) regarding PS3 exclusive titles. What's not on the list? What would we like to see on the list? What shouldn't be on the list? Thanks to PS3 fanboy, Mike C, for getting the ball rolling with the following list.

PS3 Potential Exclusives (i.e. these are not all 100% confirmed, but the vast majority are):
  • Afrika
  • BladeStorm: Hundred Years War
  • Coded Arms Assault
  • Devil May Cry 4
  • Eight Days
  • Eyedentify
  • Fatal Inertia
  • Fifth Phantom Saga
  • Final Fantasy Versus XIII
  • Final Fantasy XIII
  • Full Auto 2: Battlelines

  • Lair
  • Makai Wars
  • Metal Gear Solid 4
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
  • MotorStorm
  • Monster Kingdom (aka Unknown Realms)
  • Ni-Oh
  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma (this is technically a full "remake of the existing Xbox game)
  • Omikron 2 (this one is going multi-platform)
  • Ratchet and Clank 5
  • Resistance: Fall of Man
  • Ridge Racer 7
  • Singstar: Next Gen
  • Shin Megami Tensei
  • Tekken 6
  • The Eye of Judgment
  • The Getaway 3
  • Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
  • Untitled Naughty Dog Project (Working Title)
  • Virtua Fighter 5
  • WarDevil Enigma
  • Warhawk
  • White Knight Story

Exclusives Wishlist:
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • God of War 3
  • Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier
  • Kingdom Hearts 3
  • Shadow of the Colossus 2
  • Socom 4
  • Soul Caliber IV
[Update: Changed the list headings to reinforce that this is a round-up of potential exclusives, not gospel. We still encourage you to answer the questions posed in the original post: namely, what exclusives are missing from the list and what exclusives would you like to see on the list?]

[Update 2: Added links. Incorporated reader input (in the parentheticals). Keep it coming! Fanboys unite!]

21. You've only further impressed upon me your journalistic integrity by trying to slam on me... despite the fact that I'm right about a fair number of things here. See, you didn't bother to differentiate between which were factual and which were completely conjectured. Someone who didn't know better could definitely take the list the wrong way.

As for the "spirit of the post" what exactly is that? Misinformation?

You're a true credit to bloggers everywhere Ed.

22. for kingdom hearts 3 confirmation just clear everything on kingdom hearts 2 to get the secret ending... it looks like its going to be mindblowing... G4 has been showing it off on cheat and their gspot thing for about a month now

23. I don't remember slamming on you, WTG. Here's what I remember doing though... clarifying (via an Update) the post to ensure there was no confusion. That was based on your input, no one else's (so I already acknowledged via the post edit that I appreciated your point. What I continue to disapprove of is your delivery).

Not sure what you mean by your misinformation comment... the spirit of the post was about answering the fundamental question of what should and shouldn't be on the list.

This post isn't news... this is PS3 fans engaging in a discussion before the launch of their favorite new toy. This is supposed to be fun.

Don't worry though, I refrain from deleteing reader posts. Even the ones that are insulting and uncalled for.

24. It would be cool if they made a Kingdom Hearts game for Wii. I wanna swing the Keyblade around fo' realz this time! I'll get a PS3 when it's around $300. By then there should be a wide variety of exclusive games available for the system and I won't have to limit myself by choosing from the launch games, most of which will probably suck (no offense to anyone looking forward to Resistance: Fall of Man; it's just not my style). Right now I'm most excited about Devil May Cry 4, FF13, Heavenly Sword, and Lair. For Xbox 360 I'm looking forward to Viva Pinata and Fable 2, and of course for me November 19th is gonna be all about playing Zelda for my Wii! Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros Brawl next year! Wiiiii!!!! PSWii60 FTW!

25. "Frankly, it can. This list contains both formally announced exclusives (via press release) and rumored ones (without press release). So, as labeled, it is both."

"This isn't news... this is PS3 fans engaging in a discussion before the launch of their favorite new toy."

I love ya Ed, Don't ever change.

Oh, and you're a true hero for not deleting posts of people who disagree with you.

26. WTF is your problem geek, jesus why do u take this stuff so seriously. this is a website to give ps3fanboys information, this article was posted to give us an idea of what video games are coming out for the ps3 it wasnt listed as fact. infact it was listed as non fact.

chill out, and if u dont like get off this website and stop reading the articles !!!!!

27. I was actually surprised to find that the PS3 had the fewest exclusive titles of the three consoles that I was interested in. I already listed these on my site, but the exclusives list I pulled from didn't include Ninja Gaiden Sigma I believe. mmmmm Ninja Gaiden for a third time works for me. That makes 5 from this list, 2 of which are FF.

http://suicideninja.blogspot.com/2006/10/better-console-exclusives-vs-lists.html

I'm still trying to figure out what they would do for a "Shadow of the Colossus 2". After killing about a dozen and a half colossi....is there another 30 lurking somewhere (or 100...got to fill up that Blu-ray disc)? Does "the wanderer" take the back seat and "the girl" gets to do the beast slaying? It's interesting that it's not obvious where that series can go.

What's going to be great is when we can start downloading demoes for these games on the PS3. Then interest can grow or wane in all kinds of ways, just like with 360 games thus far.

28. Its obvious the 360 would have more exclusives, its been out a year ahead, the perfect time for devs to make games for the only console out. The Wii, being the only console in the battle to produce the most amount of exclusives (You will never see Zelda, Mario, Pokemon or any of these other characters or games on any other console unless Nintendo happens to drop) even has less exclusives then 360, why is that, there is no console to talk about yet, I'm even suprised to know that both the PS3 and Wii have so many exclusives dispite the fact they aren't out yet (and I'm not going by the list above).

Just you wait, there is still time to come. If Sony like Nintendo had chosen its own path instead of doing a similar thing to Xbox, then devs would be forced to make games exclusive to the PS3 like they do Wii as it runs completly different to the 360.

29. WhatTheGeek - while I do agree with you on many of your points, the one thing I don't agree with you taking this blog as some sort of official press release.

I come here almost everyday to relax and take a break from my homework and it's just plain fun to read about the rumors and speculations about stuff that I love. Since the blog is called PS3 Fanboy, I can guarantee that there's going to be some bias and "jumping the gun" and all the itty bitty idiosyncrasies that come with this sort of stuff.

While I, like you, also prefer facts over mere speculation, we all know the real world moves a lot slower than what we'd prefer and November 17 can't come soon enough.

I also think your calling out Ed's journalistic integrity is a bit too much. I don't know much about Ed, but I sincerely appreciate his maintaining of this blog for the joy of people like me. I don't know much about Ed's journalistic background, but frankly, I don't care because this is the internet and I'm not writing a disseration with this information.

Like I said, you're not wrong, and I agree with you - just don't take it so seriously. This may be a billion dollar industry, but when it comes down to it - it's all fun and games, right?

30. JD,

Well put. Honestly, it's not the post itself I take issue with, it's the delivery. It's listed as news and as rumor, and someone who wanders into this site might take it the wrong way because of the way it's currently worded.

As for Ed's journalistic integrity, the only thing I have to go on is this blog. I've seen several articles that could be taken wrong, or were written in a slanted (even for a fanboy) way. There's a difference between being a fanboy and a shill. Also, the fact that I was able to get under his skin so easily doesn't help his case.

31. Excellent updates Ed. This is definitely the way this post should read. I see a lot of the links aren't actually links, if I can find any info on the missing games I'll send it your way. I was actually gonna do that today, but I didn't end up w/ the free time I thought I was gonna have.

Keep up the good work.

Posted at 10:25PM on Oct 22nd 2006 by What The Geek

32. All of the links are there. There was a little hiccup or something when the update was published. I just had to go back in for a second and hit republish and their all showing again.

Posted at 10:30PM on Oct 22nd 2006 by Ed

33. Sweet, even better.

Posted at 11:01PM on Oct 22nd 2006 by What The Geek

34. The Days of the Exclusive have ended.
Publishers cannot afford to do it anymore.
These days "Exclusive" Usually means a certain number of months of Exclusivity. The Only True Exclusives are going to be limited to First Party.
Which is good for all of us gamers.

35. Yes, Grand Turismo and Soul Caliber sound really nice...
