Shipment numbers for PS3 may be cut in half

This relates to an article over at Joystiq about blue laser diodes. While they say Sony was trying to scrape up all the blue laser doodads to hit their 4 million PS3 mark by year end, it's looking very, very grim. In fact, the Taiwanese and Chinese branches of building the PS3 are trying to tell Sony "hey man, we can only get 2 million units by year end... we're running out of these blue laser diodes and cell processors!" Yet Sony, well, Kaz Hirai, still insist they'll hit the 4 million mark. It's a rough world when the volume production is still in the air so close to launch.

Will there be shortages? It is looking more likely but it's not such a big deal -- shortages are practically part of the buying experience for a new console. Maybe it shouldn't be, but it is. So then, for those of us who preordered a PS3, did you preorder the 20 or 60 gig model? And if there are dangerous shortages, would you consider eBaying your shiny new device to make a small profit and wait a month or two for the second round of consoles? Those first off the line generally have an error or two anyway...

1. Small profit? Ha. Try a 100% markup, easily. If the PS3 is shipping in smaller numbers than the 4 million, it will be pandemonium trying to get one this season. I wish I preordered, I'd sell it so fast on ebay and probably get over 1000 bucks doing it. But since this is PS3 fanboy, I won't say what I would do with said earnings :)

4. yeah, gamestop is not taking preorders, (not mine anyway), and i have an exclusive military bead on a place thats not taking preorders and is only accessable to a few. that aside microsoft didn't even have 1 mil at the end of 05 and how many were badly shipped to japan? when the psp launched in the states with 1 mil it only sold about half that the first weekend. 2 mil will be tight around the holidays, but i don't forsee anything worse than the 360.

5. There definitely will be shortage come November and December and Sony will be able to ship 4 million PS3s only in 2007, not by the end of the year.

And even if they do ship 4 million, they will be divided by the three major territories and with the underwhelming lineup of games, don't expect total game sales to be good.

6. Richie good to see all the X360 rejects prowling PS3 fan site! Pretty boring over at Microcrap right about now. But just wait till PS3 is out cuz none of you will have shit to say! You losing pieces O'shit! Bwaa.. ha.. ha..

Oh and numbnuts talking shit about game launch list for PS3! How about 27 playable demos at TGS and around 40 games at launch. What did Xbox 360 have at launch? 4 or 5 games that were shit! Sony PS3 and fans are going to be laughing hard and rolling on the ground when you asswipes get your Just Deserts! PS3 will Pwn you All!

7. How many game developers are going to stay loyal to Microsoft after piracy starts running rampant on their rushed to market overheating, beaten gamebox, wantabe media center, wantabe computer, is severely stomped on like every other American Company by the Japanese Corporate Powers do!

One thing for sure America brags like Microsoft did with Xbox 360 Security and 4 months after launch people are playing Copied Games on it. Right now you can buy or have your Xbox360 hacked and cracked in factories in Korea and Los Angeles! Piracy on Xbox is getting setup as we speak! How long before game Devs say sayonara to Microslop?

PS3 will be a Media Center, Homebrew and Mod Development platform, Computer Web Browser, and Game Console all rolled into one! No contest! Game over shortly after launch! ;D

8. Wow, your an idiot. Bill Gates has more money personally then Sony is worth as a company. You should think about that before you start defending a doomed system. Sony is in serious debt and I give them another 3 years before they are finished.
