Confirmed: Call of Duty 3 a launch title

Hot on the heels of the recent videos and screenshots for Call of Duty 3 comes news that the game will be available on launch day for the PS3. I'll give that a second to sink in...

OK, done? Good. So, in being available on November 17, 2006, Call of Duty 3 might be able to push sales in much the same way that Call of Duty 2 did for Satan's Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. Regardless, Call of Duty has been just about the only WWII shooter worth playing for quite some time, so hopefully this turns out to be a big plus for Sony and their PS3 console come release this November.

1. my worry is that it will release at the same time or ealier for 360... it will look identical or close to identical on both and people (read: parents buying consoles for their kids for the holidays) will just go with the cheaper one.

2. booohoohoo. 360 is cheaper, if you tell sony to stop force feeding us then maybe they could get the cost down. looks like i won't be getting one untill 2008-2009

3. Speaking of the game, not the console war, this is exciting news. I play Call of Duty 2 on PC's at lunch almost every day at work, and I'm looking forward to trying CoD3 on my PS3 once I get it. They're adding some cool features and the graphics look great. I wonder what kind of local multiplayer modes they have, though? One of our favorites is Search and Destroy. Any word on whether that's included?

4. Good Sony needs at least one title to help them sell their console. It's sad though that this is a third party title that will sell their console. I'd like to see Sony have some games on launch day that they came up with to sell their console. It won't happen though because they are to damn busy screwing people and tring to win a stupid worthless format war. Make some games Sony and forget about theis blue-ray shit.

5. they really shouldn't say satan's microsoft's xbox 360 console cause thats what we sony fanboys are trying to get places like joystiq to stop(against sony)(yea im a sony fanboy)

6. This is good new for Sony but it will most likely come out on the other two earlier or the same day. just like how Sonic will be a PS3 launch title and coming to 360 the same day. Theres still a few months till the PS3 launch so there can still be a major exclusive title announced for launch but right now PS3 doesn't have a killer exclusive launch title.

7. Good: This title adds some much needed quality for the hungry PS3's launch.

Bad: Gameplay, graphics, audio and content-wise, this game will simply be just the same as that of the Xbox 360 COD3. And in order to play the PS3 COD3, you'll have to pay $500-$600 for the console before getting the game itself. By comparison, those with Xbox 360 consoles have much less to worry financially. Brand new gamers can pay less by buying Xbox 360 premium and this game for $460. Strictly saying, nothing in the PS3 COD3 justifies the high cost.

8. What's crazy is that if the PS3 is delayed at all, people will be able to get most of the same titles for the 360. This is also true when the PS3 sells out. Folks will look across the isle and see the same exact titles with the same exact graphics, except 360 titles will be Live enabled. Then many a fanboy will finally realize how truly crappy of a deal the PS3 is. It's value diminishes each and every day it seams.

Madden and NCAA 07 will be out on the 360 for almost 3 months before PS3 debuts. As the months go on...it must be a true act of self control to not purchase a 360 at this point.

Oblivion, GR:AW, Fight Night Round 3, LOTR: BFME, Prey, Battlefield 2, Kameo, Need for Speed, Far Cry, Dead or Alive 4, Call of Duty 2, Condemned, Geometry Wars, GUN, Madden 06, Tomb Raider, PGR 3 , Quake 4, Top Spin 2 and much more is available on the shelf today for 360.

9. Content aside, you guys might want to consider the possibility that the PS3 edition of Call of Duty 3 might as well be priced at $65 to as much as $70. It will be in Blu-ray format (a required format imposed by Sony on all developers).

And speaking of more memory, the content of the game will be virtually the same as the Xbox 360 COD3. Sure Blu-ray contains more space than DVD but all of that will be wasted and underutilized. Just what could the game developer add to take advantage of Blu-ray? More CGI cutscenes?
